The number of victims from the bridge collapse, which connects two states in northern Brazil, has risen to nine. Authorities reported that a woman’s body was found six kilometers from the site of the tragedy. Previously, eight fatalities had been reported, and eight people are still missing.
The 533-meter bridge between the cities of Estreito and Agiarópolis collapsed last Sunday. According to the police, four trucks, two cars, and two motorcycles fell into the river.
According to the National Water Agency, the trucks were carrying around 25,000 liters of pesticides and 76 tons of sulfuric acid, which could cause significant environmental damage. Authorities have warned local residents about the danger of using water from the river.
