Olivia Hussey, best known for her iconic role as Juliet in the 1968 film Romeo and Juliet, has passed away at the age of 73.
The Argentine-born actress, who grew up in London, died on Friday surrounded by family.
Hussey gained international fame at 15, winning a Golden Globe for Best New Actress for her portrayal of Juliet. However, decades later, she and her co-star Leonard Whiting sued Paramount Pictures for sexual abuse, alleging they were pressured into filming a nude scene when they had been assured they wouldn’t have to.
In addition to Romeo and Juliet, Hussey is remembered for her role as the Virgin Mary in the 1977 miniseries Jesus of Nazareth, and for her appearances in Death on the Nile (1978) and the slasher film *Black Christmas* (1974). She later worked as a voice actress and reunited with Whiting in the 2015 film Social Suicide, a modern take on Romeo and Juliet.
