Man sentenced in France for online terror threats

In Strasbourg, a 29-year-old man has been sentenced to eight months in prison for “incitement to commit a terrorist act” after posting threats of terrorism online.

According to AFP, citing judicial sources, the court also ruled that the man, from the Doubs region, must remain in custody.

The threats were posted on the social media platform Snapchat, where the man predicted “tears and blood,” referenced weapons, and called on others to join him. Authorities were alerted to these messages on December 19 via Pharos, an online platform for reporting illegal content.

The man was swiftly arrested at a rehabilitation center for drug addicts in Alsace, where he had recently been admitted. He had a prior conviction for a similar offense involving “direct incitement to a terrorist act using public online communication services.”

The individual, who has suffered from severe poly-drug addiction for years, is also undergoing intensive medical treatment.

Following his release from prison, he will be subject to social and judicial oversight for five years and required to undergo treatment as part of his rehabilitation.
