A shocking survey has revealed that 41% of college-age voters find the murder of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson by Luigi Mangione “acceptable.”
The incident, which took place in New York on December 4, involved Mangione, from a wealthy family, coldly shooting Thompson. The poll, conducted by Emerson Polling from December 11 to 13, included 1,000 registered voters and found that support for the murder was notably high among younger generations, with 41% of those aged 18-29 approving of it.
The support sharply drops in older age groups, with only 23% of 30-39 year-olds and 13% of those between 40-49 agreeing with the act. Among voters aged 50-59, just 8% found the murder acceptable.
Adding to the controversy, University of Pennsylvania professor Julia Alekseyeva made headlines for praising Mangione, calling him “the icon we all need and deserve” in several social media posts. After backlash, Alekseyeva apologized, acknowledging her posts were “callous and inappropriate” and reaffirming her disapproval of violence.
Despite the disturbing opinions of some, 68% of those surveyed condemned the actions of Thompson’s killer as “unacceptable.”
