Small plane crashes at Stuttgart airport

A small plane crashed at Stuttgart Airport on Sunday evening, injuring both the pilot and a passenger.

According to the police, a 77-year-old pilot of a single-engine Cessna aircraft was attempting to land at the Leinfelden-Echterdingen airport in Stuttgart amid poor weather conditions. For unknown reasons, the plane breached the fence and came to a stop just a few meters further. Photos of the incident show the plane broken into several pieces.

The police reported that the pilot sustained minor injuries, while the 70-year-old passenger was seriously injured.

As a result of the crash, airport operations were temporarily suspended from around 5:00 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. Delays were experienced in both takeoffs and landings, with several flights being redirected. Emergency services at the airport deployed 11 vehicles and 23 personnel, while the rescue service sent 7 vehicles and 15 personnel to the scene.

The airport police department initiated an investigation into the incident, and experts from the Federal Bureau of Aircraft Accident Investigation were also called to the site.
