Germany unveils new online portal for visa applications

Germany has launched a new online portal that allows applicants to submit visa applications electronically. The platform supports applications for visas across 28 different categories, streamlining the process for individuals seeking entry into the country.

German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock emphasized the need for a modern, digital, and secure visa system to keep pace with Germany’s status as one of the largest economies and a key immigration destination. “This is exactly what the international portal offers, now including and digitally integrating all 167 visa centers worldwide,” Baerbock stated.

The launch follows a comprehensive overhaul of Germany’s visa issuance process over the past two and a half years. “The digital visa procedure is a real administrative revolution that strengthens Germany as a business hub,” Baerbock added.

With the new system, national visa applications can now be processed digitally through any of the international visa centers, eliminating the need for lengthy postal deliveries and reducing waiting times for applicants.
