In Poland, the cancellation of the “800+” welfare program for unemployed Ukrainians is being discussed.
The program, aimed at assisting refugees temporarily residing in Poland, provided social benefits, healthcare, and education for Ukrainians who came to the country in response to the war. However, with the increasing number of people receiving support, the Polish government has expressed concerns about the sustainability of such a system in the long term.
Poland’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defense, Mariusz Błaszczak, emphasized the importance of balancing social aid with the need for Ukrainians receiving benefits to also contribute to the Polish economy.
The Minister stressed that if Ukrainians work and pay taxes, they should continue to receive assistance.
In the context of the potential cancellation of aid for unemployed Ukrainians, the Polish authorities are also considering ways to improve the support system, including creating incentives for refugees to participate more actively in the country’s economic life, such as through employment and training programs.
