Pope Francis to receive hospital treatment for bronchitis, Vatican announces

Pope Francis is set to be admitted to a hospital in Rome for ongoing treatment of bronchitis and further medical tests, the Vatican confirmed on Friday. This follows a series of health concerns about the 88-year-old pontiff.

The Vatican explained, “This morning, at the end of the audiences, Pope Francis will be admitted to the Agostino Gemelli Polyclinic for some necessary diagnostic tests and to continue in a hospital setting treatment for bronchitis that is still ongoing.”

The pope, who has had several hospital visits in recent years, underwent abdominal surgery in 2023.
