In Romania, a major investigation into corruption has led to searches at the Joint Logistics Command of the Romanian Armed Forces, along with 20 other locations. The National Anti-Corruption Directorate (DNA) confirmed that, on February 14, over 20 searches were carried out based on court orders.
The DNA stated that searches are taking place in 22 locations within Bucharest and the surrounding counties of Ilfov and Giurgiu. Among the locations is the main office of a state institution, along with premises of individuals, commercial organization offices, and other facilities. Further details on the investigation will be released later.
Sources indicate that the case is focused on suspicions related to contracts for the expansion of the Ghencea military cemetery in Bucharest. The allegations include “abuse of power with particularly serious consequences,” with estimated losses reaching as high as 2.4 million euros.
The investigation targets 21 individuals, including General Cătălin Ștefăniță Zisu, the commander of the logistics forces. Authorities believe that fictitious work was added to the contract for the cemetery’s expansion, inflating the project’s cost.
