French President Emmanuel Macron is organizing an emergency summit in Paris on Monday, bringing together European leaders, according to Polish Foreign Minister Radosław Sikorski at the Munich Security Conference on Saturday.
“I’m very glad that President Macron has called our leaders to Paris,” Sikorski said, adding that he expects the European leaders to discuss “in a very serious fashion” the challenges posed by U.S. President Donald Trump.
“President Trump has a method of operating which the Russians call razvedka boyem — reconnaissance through battle: You push and you see what happens, and then you change your position. … And we need to respond,” the Polish minister said. The meeting will take place on Monday, according to two EU officials.
The specifics of which European leaders would be invited to the summit were unclear. It was uncertain whether the meeting would include all EU leaders or just a select few, and whether other European leaders, such as U.K. Prime Minister Keir Starmer, would also attend.
A French spokesperson was not immediately available for comment. French Foreign Minister Jean-Noël Barrot, who shared a panel with Sikorski in Munich, did not confirm or deny the summit.
Sikorski later stated that Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk will attend the meeting at Macron’s invitation. “We need to show our strength and unity,” Sikorski wrote in a social media post.
