Over 2,000 German companies continue operations in Russia, despite sanctions

More than 2,000 German companies are still doing business in Russia, despite the ongoing war in Ukraine and international pressure, Spiegel reports.

According to expert estimates, only 34% of Western companies completely ceased their operations in Russia following the invasion. Data from Yale University indicates that 22% of companies are in the process of exiting, while 45% remain active within the country.

As reported by Handelsblatt, between 2,000 and 2,500 German companies continue their operations in Russia, albeit in varying forms.

The German-Russian Chamber of Commerce reports that 89% of German firms are still engaged in business with Russia. Notable companies such as Beiersdorf (the producer of Nivea), Bayer, Ehrmann, and Claas are among those maintaining their presence, continuing to generate revenue for the Kremlin despite widespread condemnation.
