The U.S. is witnessing a sharp increase in the number of government employees actively searching for new jobs following large-scale layoffs initiated by the DOGE department, NBC reports.
According to Indeed, the number of resumes from federal agency employees affected by the layoffs has risen by 75% compared to 2022. The increase is particularly notable among specialists from the Consumer Protection Bureau and the Agency for International Development, where the rate jumped by 60 percentage points from January to February alone.
Labor market experts note that the wave of layoffs could put additional pressure on the job market, increasing competition among job seekers in both the public and private sectors. Some analysts believe that the dismissed employees may transition to private companies, particularly in consulting, analytics, and IT, where their expertise is in demand.
At the same time, the government is developing retraining and employment programs for former civil servants to minimize the social and economic impact of the layoffs. However, experts argue that these measures are still insufficient to address the issue in the long term.
