Marine Le Pen will appeal the sentence in France and the ECHR

The leader of the National Rally party, Marine Le Pen, intends to challenge her verdict in the Constitutional Council of France and the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR).

The politician believes that the case has a political motive and has stated her determination to use all available legal mechanisms to defend her rights.

On March 31, a French court sentenced Le Pen to four years of imprisonment; however, the sentence will be served under house arrest with an electronic bracelet. Additionally, she is banned from running for public office for five years. The verdict is related to a case of misusing funds intended for hiring assistants in the European Parliament.

On April 1, Le Pen called the court ruling an “atomic bomb” that threatens her participation in the 2027 presidential elections. In an interview with Le Parisien, she emphasized that she does not intend to give up and will fight to have the verdict overturned.

The politician also stated that if she is allowed to run in 2027, it will be her last election unless she wins.
