Europe considers using NATO resources to send peacekeepers to Ukraine

European countries are exploring the possibility of utilizing NATO resources to deploy a peacekeeping mission in Ukraine, according to the Financial Times, citing sources.

The plan under consideration involves using the Alliance’s command and control structures, as well as shared intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance capabilities. In particular, this includes E-3 AWACS airborne early warning aircraft.

According to the publication, the initiative could also lead to indirect U.S. involvement in the process and ensure its “silent support.” Washington plays a key role in NATO’s military capabilities in Europe.

If we are going to deploy forces and assets from dozens of countries in Ukraine, NATO is the only command and control option we can use, said one European official.

Another source emphasized that successfully managing such a mission requires military expertise.

The next meeting of the “coalition of the willing” on Ukraine will take place at NATO headquarters, where this issue is likely to be discussed.

Moscow has repeatedly expressed its categorical opposition to the idea of deploying Western peacekeepers to Ukraine.
