London police have officially charged British actor and comedian Russell Brand, the former husband of singer Katy Perry, with multiple counts of sexual assault. This was stated in an official release by law enforcement authorities.
According to police reports, 50-year-old Brand, who resides in Oxfordshire, is facing charges including rape, indecent assault, oral rape, and two counts of sexual assault.
The alleged offenses are said to have been committed against four women between 1999 and 2005. The comedian is scheduled to appear before Westminster Magistrates’ Court on May 2.
The investigation began in September 2023 following several complaints. Prior to that, possible incidents of sexual misconduct involving Brand were reported by The Times and Channel 4 as part of a joint journalistic investigation.
