Czech Republic sees decline in passenger car sales

Sales of passenger cars in the Czech Republic have started to decline in 2024, following a 4.6% increase in sales last year.

In the first two months of this year, sales fell by 4.1%, totaling 37,120 cars. Experts predict a continued decline for the entire first quarter, with official results expected to be announced by the Association of Automotive Importers on April 4.

Skoda led car sales in the first two months, despite experiencing a 12% decrease with 13,015 cars registered. Hyundai followed with an 8% drop, registering 3,428 cars, while Volkswagen saw a 13% increase, totaling 2,871 cars. Toyota and Kia round out the top five brands.

In terms of powertrains, hybrid vehicles accounted for 24% of sales, and battery electric vehicles saw a significant rise of 77% compared to last year, making up 4.6% of the market. Gasoline cars still dominated the market with 67.5% of sales, while diesel cars represented 22.4%.
