J.D. Vance, U.S. Vice President, stated that Europe’s greatest threat is not external forces like Russia or China but rather its internal political issues.
According to Vance, Europe’s challenges include its migration policy, which he argues is eroding the cultural foundation, economic policies that weaken competitiveness, and security policies that lack coherence.
“We must admit: the main threat to Europe is not Russia or China. The main threat is its internal problems: migration policy, which is destroying the cultural foundation of Europe; economic policies that are reducing competitiveness; security policies. Their leaders claim that Russia is the main threat in the world. But at the same time, they buy Russian gas worth billions and spend only 1% of GDP on defense, while we spend 3-4%. In Europe, words do not match actions,” Vance remarked.
Reports earlier indicated confusion in Europe regarding President Trump’s demand for a 5% GDP defense spending, especially considering his belief that Russia does not pose a direct threat to the continent. Additionally, Europe has begun discussing reducing its arms purchases from the U.S., a move that has caused displeasure within the Trump administration.
