The Dutch government intends to significantly increase investment in the defense sector, according to an updated version of the national defense strategy obtained by RTL Nieuws.
According to the document, the Netherlands plans to allocate €1.1 billion to support companies operating in the defense and advanced technology sectors, with the goal of boosting domestic production and innovation.
Among other measures, the strategy includes a shift toward long-term contracts to strengthen sector stability and provide greater security for manufacturers. The government is also considering participation in joint defense procurements with international partners.
As of now, the country’s defense budget stands at €2.4 billion, meeting the minimum NATO-recommended spending threshold of 2% of GDP. In addition to direct investment, the government is exploring alternative ways to strengthen the defense industry — in particular, by encouraging investment from insurance companies and other financial institutions.
