Trump’s team urges ceasefire commitment before any call with Putin

Donald Trump’s top advisers are urging him to hold off on speaking with Russian President Vladimir Putin unless a complete ceasefire in Ukraine is secured.

According to two administration officials cited by NBC News, no phone call between Trump and Putin has been arranged so far. However, those familiar with the situation say Trump could still decide to reach out on his own initiative.

Sources say the recommendation from Trump’s team is clear: do not engage with the Kremlin leader until there is a formal agreement on halting hostilities in the ongoing Russia-Ukraine conflict.

On Sunday, Trump told NBC News that he plans to speak with Putin this week.
