Russia and Egypt wrap up joint naval drills in the Mediterranean

Russian and Egyptian naval forces recently completed a week-long military exercise dubbed Friendship Bridge – 2025, aimed at enhancing cooperation and coordination at sea. The joint drills took place in the Mediterranean from April 6 to 10, with operations split between shore-based activities and open-water maneuvers.

According to Russia’s Northern Fleet press office, the exercise brought together a mix of warships, support vessels, aircraft, and marines from both nations. Russia deployed the frigate Admiral Golovko, the medium tanker Vyazma, and a Ka-27 helicopter, while Egypt contributed the frigate Al Galala, missile boats Fuad Zekri and Mahmoud Fahmy, and F-16 fighter jets.

The drills kicked off in Alexandria, where both sides hashed out scenarios using tactical maps and conducted briefings to synchronize plans. On land, Russian and Egyptian marines teamed up for live-fire exercises and practiced ship-boarding procedures.

Once at sea, crews simulated defense tactics against fast-moving threats, repelled an air attack from a mock enemy F-16, inspected a suspicious vessel, carried out artillery strikes on marine targets, and rehearsed a joint search-and-rescue operation.

Both navies praised the training for strengthening mutual understanding and showcasing the high level of preparedness on both sides.

Separately, on April 9, Russia’s Pacific Fleet reported that its R-18 and R-19 missile boats conducted live-fire drills against sea and air targets in Peter the Great Bay, continuing their scheduled combat training operations.
