President Donald Trump will celebrate his first 100 days in office next week with a rally in Michigan, marking his first public event since returning to the White House earlier this year.
Trump is scheduled to visit Macomb County on Tuesday, according to the White House press secretary. The area, located just north of Detroit, is known for its automotive industry.
“President Trump is excited to return to the great state of Michigan next Tuesday, where he will rally in Macomb County to celebrate the FIRST 100 DAYS!” Karoline Leavitt wrote on social media Wednesday.
The rally will take place on Trump’s 100th day in office, a key moment when a president’s early achievements are typically assessed against campaign promises. Michigan, a crucial battleground state, was one of the key states Trump flipped from Democrat to Republican in the previous election, helping secure his path back to the White House.
Since taking office, Trump has not traveled much, with only personal weekend trips. His only other official journey during his second term was in the first week, when he visited disaster zones in North Carolina and California and attended an event in Las Vegas to promote his plan to eliminate taxes on tips.
Later this week, Trump will travel to Rome for Pope Francis’ funeral, marking his first foreign trip of his second term. His upcoming Michigan visit follows a series of discussions and calls with the state’s prominent Democratic Governor, Gretchen Whitmer. Once a vocal critic of Trump, Whitmer has expressed her hope to find common ground with the president during his second term.
