Lavrov signals openness to U.S. peace proposal but calls for revisions

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov has indicated Moscow’s willingness to negotiate a peace agreement with the United States over the conflict in Ukraine, while stressing that certain parts of the proposed plan require adjustments.

Speaking in an interview with CBS News, Lavrov expressed cautious optimism about the ongoing diplomatic efforts.

Commenting on the progress, Lavrov noted that there are “several signs that we are moving in the right direction.”

“The U.S. President believes, and I think he’s right, that we are moving in the right direction,” Lavrov said.

“We are ready to reach an agreement. There are still specific aspects, elements of this agreement, that require refinement, and we are currently engaged in that process,” he added.

He also praised former President Donald Trump, calling him “probably the only leader on Earth who acknowledged the need to address the root causes of this situation.”

Reports last week suggested that the Trump team presented Ukrainian officials in Paris with a one-page document, described as a “final offer” for resolving the war. The proposal reportedly includes U.S. recognition of Russian sovereignty over Crimea and potential easing of sanctions against Moscow.
