Spanish police have rescued three children who were kept in isolation by their parents—German citizens—since December 2021. The incident occurred on the outskirts of Oviedo, in northern Spain.
According to the newspaper La Nueva España, the investigation began after a neighbor grew suspicious upon noticing that children were living in the house but were never seen outside or attending school.
Media reports state that the children include a 10-year-old boy and 8-year-old twins. Since December 2021, they had not left the house—not even to go into the garden. They were completely cut off from the outside world and had never been enrolled in school.
It is reported that the children slept in cage-like beds, were forced to wear diapers and face masks. The parents are believed to have worked from home and only left the house to collect mail and buy groceries. The reasons behind such extreme isolation remain unclear.
Following the neighbor’s report, the Spanish police intervened. On April 28, the parents were detained for questioning, and the children were placed under the care of social services.
