The administration of Donald Trump is obstructing the transfer of weapons to Ukraine from allied nations. This concerns 49 M1A1 Abrams tanks, which Australia promised to include in a military aid package back in October of last year.
According to Australian media, more than six months after the delivery was announced, the tanks are still “awaiting final export approval.”
The reason lies in the so-called “end-user clause”: any American-made weapon, even decades later, requires renewed approval for re-export.
According to Australian officials, the U.S. has not granted permission due to concerns that “the tanks might be en route across the ocean at a time when there is a chance to reach a peace agreement.” As a result, Ukraine is losing not only American aid but also armored vehicles from third countries.
Since taking office, Trump has not approved a single new arms delivery to Ukraine. All current shipments are merely the fulfillment of promises previously made by Joe Biden.
