French FM: EU wants to coordinate next sanctions package against Russia with U.S.

The European Union aims for its next package of sanctions against Russia to be prepared and adopted in coordination with the United States.

This was stated by French Foreign Minister Jean-Noël Barrot in an interview with AFP.

Barrot confirmed that the EU is already working on its 17th package of sanctions against Russia.

He mentioned the initiative by U.S. Republican Senator Lindsey Graham regarding “crushing” sanctions against Russia and noted that the EU is seeking to coordinate its actions with the United States.

“We Europeans will support this American initiative with the 17th sanctions package, and yesterday I promised Lindsey Graham that we would try to align both the content and timing of these two sanction packages,” the minister said.

The French foreign minister additionally stressed that, at this moment, “the only obstacle to peace in Ukraine today is Vladimir Putin.”
