Five suspects suspected of preparing a terrorist attack have been detained in the UK

British counter-terrorism police have arrested five men suspected of planning a terrorist attack targeting a specific location, according to a statement from London’s Metropolitan Police released on Sunday, as reported by the BBC.

The arrests took place on Saturday in various parts of the country — Swindon, west London, Stockport, Rochdale, and Manchester. According to law enforcement officials, four of the five detainees are Iranian nationals. All are suspected of preparing a terrorist act and remain in police custody.

Details of the alleged plot have not been disclosed due to operational reasons. Dominic Murphy, head of London’s Counter Terrorism Command, stated that the investigation is still in its early stages, and authorities are exploring several leads to determine possible motives and assess any further threat to the public.

As part of the ongoing investigation, police are conducting searches at multiple addresses in Greater Manchester, London, and Swindon.
