Church in Germany holds ‘Star Wars’-themed service

This past Sunday, May 4, an Evangelical church in the town of Bensberg, located in the German state of North Rhine-Westphalia, held an unusual service dedicated to the universe of Star Wars, celebrating the unofficial holiday of the iconic saga.

According to the DPA news agency, the Protestant congregation organized a themed worship service complete with special lighting, atmospheric smoke, and even a replica of the famous Millennium Falcon spaceship. The event was aimed at attracting a younger audience.

Pastor Samuel Dorr appeared dressed as a Jedi — wearing a cloak and wielding a lit lightsaber. Many attendees also came in costumes representing characters from the Star Wars franchise.

May 4 is celebrated annually by Star Wars fans and creators around the world, inspired by the iconic phrase from the films: “May the Force be with you,” which sounds similar to the date “May the Fourth.”
