Macron poised to launch multiple referendums in prime-time address to the nation

French President Emmanuel Macron is reportedly preparing to unveil a series of national referendums during a live prime-time broadcast on May 13, according to Le Figaro. The bold move follows recent remarks by Prime Minister François Bayrou, who floated the idea of a single referendum on France’s budget just days earlier.

But Macron appears ready to take it several steps further.

Rather than focusing on a single topic, the president is expected to invite the French public to weigh in on multiple national issues—bundled together in one sweeping questionnaire. While the precise subjects remain under wraps, Le Figaro suggests it’ll look less like a traditional referendum and more like a large-scale public consultation, possibly styled as a same-day poll.

This will mark Macron’s second major televised appearance since March 5, when he addressed the nation on military aid for Ukraine and European defense. His upcoming address on TF1 is expected to directly appeal to French citizens as the government grapples with mounting domestic and geopolitical challenges.

Macron’s plan comes amid rising political pressure and growing frustration from voters across the spectrum, signaling a potential reset in his strategy to re-engage a divided public.
