The 22-year-old Warsaw University attacker faces life in prison

The young man who carried out a brutal attack at the University of Warsaw on May 7 could face life imprisonment.

According to RMF FM, the prosecution plans to question the 22-year-old law student on Thursday. He is accused of savagely killing a university staff member with an axe and seriously injuring a security guard who tried to intervene. The suspect is currently being held in a detention facility.

It is not yet known whether he was under the influence of drugs — this will be determined by medical experts. A psychiatric evaluation has also been ordered to assess his mental condition.

The prosecution is expected to release more details on Thursday evening or Friday. The injured security guard was taken to the hospital and, according to the latest reports, is in stable condition with no threat to his life.

The attack occurred on the evening of May 7 on the university campus. In response to the tragedy, the university administration declared May 8 a day of mourning.
