Counterterrorism police are investigating a fire incident at the home of UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer in North London. A suspect has already been taken into custody.
According to The Telegraph, the fire started around 1:35 a.m. on May 12 — approximately the time when Starmer was returning from Kyiv, where he attended a meeting of the “Coalition of the Willing for Britain.” The flames damaged the front entrance of the building, but the fire was contained within 20 minutes. No injuries were reported.
The investigation is being handled by the counterterrorism unit. According to the publication, the three-story house where the incident took place was purchased by Starmer and his wife in 2004 for £650,000. It is located near the residences of Energy Secretary Ed Miliband and actor Benedict Cumberbatch. Since last summer, the Starmer family has been living on Downing Street, and the house is currently being rented out.
On the morning of May 13, a 21-year-old man suspected of starting the fire was arrested. He remains in custody.
