At least 60 people, including 22 children, were killed in a series of Israeli airstrikes on Gaza between Tuesday night and early Wednesday, according to medical officials at hospitals in the territory.
Israeli authorities did not directly comment on the strikes but stated they had issued evacuation warnings in Jabaliya, where they said Hamas infrastructure, including rocket launchers, was located.
The airstrikes followed the release of an Israeli-American hostage in a deal brokered by Hamas and the United States. The agreement was part of broader efforts to revive a ceasefire, reopen border crossings into the blockaded enclave, and allow humanitarian aid deliveries to resume.
Despite the negotiations, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said Tuesday that the Israel Defense Forces would press on “with full force” in Gaza. He declared there was “no way” Israel would stop its military campaign, even if more hostages were released under a new agreement. The military, he said, was just days away from entering Gaza “with great strength to complete the mission (of) destroying Hamas.”
