In Istanbul, police detained more than 90 students from Boğaziçi University on Tuesday during a protest against the appearance of Islamic preacher Nureddin Yıldız, Reuters reports, citing a statement from the city’s governor.
The protest was sparked by a university conference featuring Yıldız — a religious figure widely criticized for his controversial views, particularly his support for early marriages. The event was organized by one of the university’s student clubs.
According to authorities, 97 students were detained after attempting to breach a police barricade on campus. During the clashes, 13 police officers were injured after falling into a five-meter construction pit.
