The United States is opposed to inviting Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky to the upcoming NATO summit scheduled for June 24 in The Hague, according to the Italian news agency Ansa, citing diplomatic sources.
According to the agency, Washington’s stance has caused confusion among its allies. “Almost all allies have expressed doubts about the U.S. position,” one source told the outlet.
Zelensky’s potential participation is expected to be discussed during an informal meeting of NATO foreign ministers taking place this evening in Antalya, Turkey.
So far, official invitations to the summit have only been extended to four Asia-Pacific partners: Japan, South Korea, Australia, and New Zealand.
Volodymyr Zelensky previously took part in NATO summits in Vilnius in 2023 and Washington in 2024.
