Swiss authorities have evacuated approximately 100 people from the village of Blatten, located in the alpine canton of Valais, due to the threat of a landslide, according to 20 Minuten.
The emergency evacuation was ordered after rockfalls were detected in the area — a phenomenon that had occurred there previously and signaled ongoing ground instability.
According to evacuation task force spokesperson Matthias Ebener, 92 local residents and several tourists were removed from the potential danger zone.
It remains unclear when those evacuated will be able to return to their homes. Authorities are continuing to monitor the situation, which Ebener described as “very difficult to predict.” For safety reasons, the main road leading to Blatten has also been temporarily closed.
Similar incidents have previously occurred in another Swiss village — Brienz, in the canton of Graubünden — where residents were also evacuated multiple times due to landslide threats.
