Large cocaine shipment accidentally seized in Malmö, Sweden

An alarm triggered during a burglary attempt in a house in the Swedish city of Malmö helped police uncover one of the largest cocaine shipments.

On Saturday, May 17, Malmö police responded to a report of suspicious behavior in an apartment.
When officers arrived at the scene, they found a handgun, but after not finding anything else suspicious, they left.

Later, police received another report of a robbery at the same apartment. This time, they caught several individuals in the act as they were removing items from the apartment.

During the arrest, authorities found and seized 250 kilograms of cocaine. The confiscated shipment is one of the largest in Malmö’s history, with an estimated value of 225 million Swedish kronor (over 23 million US dollars).

According to Malmö police spokesperson Nils Norling, five people were detained. They face charges including drug law violations, illegal possession of firearms, and burglary.

Last year, Swedish customs carried out one of the country’s largest cocaine seizures, confiscating about 1.4 tons of the drug at a port near Stockholm.
