Tesla CEO Elon Musk has announced that he will refocus on managing the company and step back from political activities. According to Bloomberg, Musk intends to remain Tesla’s chief executive for at least the next five years and reduce his involvement in politics in order to “reassure investors.”
The billionaire also harshly criticized protesters whom he accused of violence against his companies, stating that “they should be in jail.” Meanwhile, Politico reports that Musk’s recent disappearance from the public eye is no coincidence. According to one Republican strategist who spoke on condition of anonymity, Musk has become a “politically toxic figure” and has lost support even among his former allies.
This refers to events in April, when Republicans suffered a major defeat in a high-stakes judicial race in Wisconsin. Musk, who actively backed candidates, ended up being both a key donor and a liability for the campaign. Polls showed that Musk had become even more unpopular than Donald Trump, and his political activism was viewed as burdensome by the Republican establishment.
Against this backdrop, officials have stopped mentioning Musk publicly, and he has ceased appearing at official events. Work on crypto projects, including DOGE, is continuing, but has taken a backseat to pressing issues like tariffs and the ongoing budget debate.
