On Monday evening in the city of Liverpool, a car drove into a crowd near the area where fans of the local football club were celebrating a Premier League victory.
The incident occurred around 6:00 p.m. local time on Water Street. According to eyewitnesses, the vehicle struck a group of people in that area.
At the time, thousands of Liverpool fans had gathered along the city streets to celebrate the club’s win in the English Premier League. Law enforcement later reported that the driver was arrested after stopping the car immediately following the incident.
Emergency responders, following the police, confirmed the incident and stated that their priority was “to provide medical assistance to people as quickly as possible.”
There has been no official information yet on the number of people injured. However, an eyewitness told The Telegraphthat they counted at least 17 people who received assistance.
UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer commented on the “horrific scenes” from Liverpool and thanked the police and emergency services for their swift response to the incident.
