In the early hours of Thursday, an ATM explosion severely damaged a residential building in the town of Knittlingen, located in the German state of Baden-Württemberg. The incident was reported by Spiegel.
According to preliminary information, the perpetrators broke into the building, planted explosives on the ATM, and detonated them. After the explosion, they stole the cash and fled the scene by car. Fortunately, no injuries were reported, but the blast caused significant structural damage to the building, which is situated in a busy area of the town.
Police estimate the total damage at around €700,000. Law enforcement, in collaboration with the Baden-Württemberg criminal investigation department, has launched an investigation and is searching for evidence that could lead to the suspects.
Authorities note that such ATM attacks are becoming increasingly common in Germany and are often carried out by organized criminal groups, including gangs from the Netherlands. These explosions not only cause major financial losses but also pose a serious risk to the public, with previous incidents resulting in severe injuries and even fatalities among bystanders.
