90 illegal migrants tried to enter Latvia from Belarus

On Wednesday, June 4, several dozen migrants attempted to illegally enter Latvia from Belarus, as reported by LRT citing data from the State Border Guard.

On June 4, Latvian border guards detained 90 people who tried to illegally cross into Latvia from Belarus.

It is noted that this year, border guards have detained 4,615 people attempting to illegally enter Latvia from Belarus, while 12 people were allowed entry into the country for humanitarian reasons.

Earlier, the Latvian government extended the regime of enhanced security measures at the border with Belarus until June 30, 2025, due to the influx of illegal migrants.

In March, for the same reason, Latvia decided to partially close the “Paternieki” border checkpoint on the border with Belarus in the Krāslava region, and the “Grebnevo” and “Terehovo” checkpoints on the border with Russia in the Ludza region.
