Traffic jams stretching up to 10 kilometers have formed at several border crossings between Poland and Germany, causing major delays on key routes to Berlin and neighboring areas.
The longest congestion was recorded on the A2 highway toward Berlin, where traffic extended to 15 kilometers just before the border. Other affected areas include the adjacent road and the bridge over the Oder River. On the A4 highway in Poland’s Lower Silesian Voivodeship, queues reached 10 kilometers, with similar delays reported on other cross-border routes.
Authorities attribute the jams to a combination of higher vehicle volume following the recent long weekend — Monday was a public holiday — and intensified German border controls aimed at curbing illegal migration.
German police have expressed concerns about the sustainability of the heightened border checks. Additionally, the Berlin Administrative Court ruled that it is illegal to turn away asylum seekers at the border who have submitted valid applications.
