Finland bans the use of electric scooters by children under 15 years old

Starting June 17, new legislative changes will come into force in Finland regulating the use of electric scooters and other types of light electric transport, according to Yle.

Under the new rules, only individuals aged 15 and older will be allowed to operate electric scooters capable of speeds over 15 km/h. This restriction also applies to rented e-scooters.

If a minor is caught riding an e-scooter, their parents may be fined for violating traffic regulations. The fine for this offense has been increased from €40 to €60.

Stricter penalties are also being introduced for intoxicated riders. If an e-scooter operator is found to have a blood alcohol level of 0.5‰ or traces of drugs, they could face a €200 fine for driving under the influence.

Authorities also strongly recommend wearing a protective helmet while riding electric scooters, hoverboards, or other similar devices.
