Authorities in Cyprus have detained an individual suspected of terrorist activities and espionage, according to an announcement by law enforcement on Saturday, June 21, as reported by Reuters.
The suspect was taken into custody by Cypriot police on Saturday and brought before a district court, which ordered the person to remain in detention for eight days while the investigation continues.
No additional information has been released by authorities, who cited national security reasons for withholding details.
Cyprus, situated near the Middle East, has recently become a strategic transit point for individuals either fleeing the region or traveling into it, amid escalating conflict between Israel and Iran.
