Voting for Romania’s presidential elections began abroad on Friday, May 2, with ballots sent to 965 polling stations across the globe, totaling 3.6 million ballots.
The first polling station opened in Auckland, New Zealand, at 7:00 AM local time.
Eligible Romanian citizens holding a valid identity document issued by Romanian authorities are permitted to vote abroad in the 2025 presidential elections.
By 12:00 PM Kyiv time, 16,613 votes had already been cast overseas.
The first round of Romania’s presidential elections will take place on May 4, with the second round scheduled for May 18. George Simion, leader of the right-wing AUR party, is currently the frontrunner in the race.
