U.S. President Donald Trump said on Friday that he does not rule out the possibility of a phone call with Russian President Vladimir Putin to discuss ways to end the war in Ukraine, CNN reports.
Speaking to reporters aboard Air Force One, Trump noted that such a call could take place in the context of a planned face-to-face meeting with the Russian leader.
We have to meet. We will meet, Trump emphasized. I think we’ll be able to solve this issue. And if not — at least we’ll know. And if we don’t solve it, it will still be very interesting, he added.
Earlier the same day, Trump said he intends to meet with Putin “as soon as we can arrange it.” He also expressed confidence that “the world will be safer in two to three weeks.”
The day before, Trump stated that a peaceful resolution to the conflict between Russia and Ukraine is not possible without his personal meeting with Vladimir Putin.
