Trump: U.S. open to trade with Iran and sees it as a path to peace

U.S. President Donald Trump stated that the United States is ready to resume trade relations with Iran and views economic cooperation as a key tool for resolving international conflicts and establishing stability.

He made these remarks in an interview with Fox News, an excerpt of which aired on Friday.

Iran wants to trade with us, and I’m not against that. I use trade to settle disputes and establish peace, the American leader said.

According to Trump, the economy can and should play a constructive role in international politics, especially in tense regions. He emphasized that dialogue based on mutually beneficial commercial ties can reduce hostility and lay the groundwork for stronger diplomatic relations.

The statement comes amid ongoing tensions between Tehran and Washington, as well as discussions in Congress regarding the future U.S. strategy in the Middle East. Relations between the two countries have remained strained in recent years following the U.S. withdrawal from the Iran nuclear deal in 2018 and the subsequent economic sanctions.

However, Trump has repeatedly expressed openness to negotiations with Iran without preconditions if it helps enhance security and stabilize the region. Experts believe this latest statement may signal a possible shift in U.S. policy toward Iran, particularly if nuclear talks resume and sanctions are reconsidered.

Official Tehran has yet to comment on the American president’s remarks.
