Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić stated that countries consuming liquefied natural gas (LNG) from the U.S. will end up in a queue for Russian gas when the U.S. reduces its exports.
According to Vučić, these countries will be forced to turn to Moscow for gas supplies, as the U.S. will need more volumes themselves due to increased consumption, artificial intelligence and electric batteries.
Vučić made this statement during his participation in the 29th session of the UN Climate Change Conference (COP29) held in Baku from November 11 to 22. On Monday, he also discussed with Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev the project for constructing a 1-gigawatt gas power plant near the Serbian city of Niš, with an estimated cost of 1.2–1.3 billion euros.
Additionally, Serbia and Azerbaijan signed a memorandum of cooperation in the field of green energy and a gas supply agreement in September. Starting from November 1, Serbia will receive 1 million cubic meters of natural gas daily until the end of the heating season. Azerbaijan also plans to increase gas supplies to Serbia to 1 billion cubic meters.
