Donald Trump, who won the U.S. presidential election, is considering the nomination of Mike Pence’s former national security advisor, Keith Kellogg, for the position of Special Representative for the Ukraine conflict, Reuters reports, citing three anonymous sources.
Earlier, the agency also reported that Trump may appoint Richard Grenell, the former Director of National Intelligence, to a similar role.
According to sources, Kellogg, a retired lieutenant general, presented Trump with his plan to end the conflict in Ukraine. One of the sources clarified that Grenell remains the frontrunner for the position.
In June this year, it was reported that Kellogg and Fred Fleitz, former heads of the National Security Council staff, prepared a plan in which Ukraine was expected to begin peace negotiations with Russia, and if it refused, the U.S. would halt military aid. Trump responded positively to the plan but did not confirm that he would fully agree with it.
Trump has repeatedly stated that, if re-elected, he could resolve the conflict between Russia and Ukraine in just one day.
