A three-year-old child in the U.S. accidentally shot his five-year-old sister.
The girl was hospitalized in critical condition, according to ABC News, citing the police. The incident occurred on Monday evening in a neighborhood of Washington, D.C., the U.S. capital.
According to Pamela Smith, the head of the local police department, the child gained access to a firearm that was stored unsafely. As a result, the girl was injured. The five-year-old’s condition remains serious.
It was also reported that a man who was in the apartment at the time of the incident has been arrested. He is facing charges of child abuse. During the incident, a woman, who is likely the sister of the injured girl, was arrested on suspicion of assaulting a police officer. The investigation is ongoing.
