Latvia conducts combat readiness check for national armed forces

Latvia has announced a partial combat readiness check of its National Armed Forces (NAF) units on Tuesday, December 17.

The exercise is designed to test and enhance the combat readiness and procedural efficiency of military units by evaluating their ability to respond to various scenarios, the NAF explained.

During the readiness check, military personnel and equipment will be deployed across multiple locations in Latvia to carry out assigned tasks. While the check was pre-planned, it was conducted as a surprise to participating units to ensure realistic training conditions. The NAF emphasized that this exercise is unrelated to changes in the security environment or any recent security-related events.

Latvia’s defense strategy highlights the importance of societal involvement. The NAF stressed that protecting the country’s independence and strengthening its preparedness are shared responsibilities. Personal initiative, responsibility, and readiness for action are fundamental to the nation’s defense framework.

Citizens can contribute in various ways, including joining professional service, enlisting in the National Guard, completing basic reservist training, or performing their professional duties responsibly while supporting their communities.
