On the first day of 2025, Romanian rescuers responded to a surge of distress calls in the mountains, assisting nearly 100 tourists, with more than 20 requiring hospitalization.
The Mountain Rescue Service reported receiving 90 calls on January 1 from hikers in trouble along various mountain routes. Rescuers successfully helped 93 tourists reach safety. After being evacuated, 26 individuals were transferred to medical personnel for treatment and hospitalization.
Earlier, at the end of the year, Romanian rescuers conducted an extensive search in the Maramureș Mountains, locating three Ukrainian nationals who had gotten lost near the border after more than 24 hours of searching.
In early December, the same rescue team saved a 28-year-old Ukrainian man who had fled military mobilization, along with his kitten, from a mountain gorge in the region.
